BRAND IDENTITY
South Brooklyn Sanctuary is a non-profit born from grassroots efforts at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. It offers vital legal assistance to immigrants navigating New York City's complex legal system. With a commitment to dignity and justice, the sanctuary serves thousands, bridging gaps left by inadequate city resources and limited nonprofit capacity.
I worked with them to develop a brand identity inspired by activism and resistance movements. It aims to be bold and and impactful while still conveying the warmth of community and connection.
The SBS logo has a raw, hand-cut paper style that captures the essence of grassroots activism. The icon consists of a sun that radiates optimism, a bird that takes flight as a symbol of freedom and new beginnings, and a blossoming flower that embodies growth, with a hand signifying unwavering support. The typeface also has a hand-drawn DIY feel, reminiscent of hand-made posters from resistance movements.
